On Busing Question, Eagle Hill Students Are Happy For Now

BOE member Meghan Olsson was the first to push back on the administration’s recommendation to deny busing to Greenwich students who attend Eagle Hill School. BOE to Superintendent: Slice “Opportunity Block” to Half Hour

Without a full 45 minute opportunity block, it will not be possible to offer students a full credit course at the end of the school day. The BOE advised the administration to devise a structured 30 minutes for students who are not excused for sports or school sanctioned activity so that they don’t just leave school early. BOE Approves Gildea’s Start/End Time Creative Solution for GHS: The “Opportunity Block”

Dr. Gildea proposed a creative solution to the “pain points” in this year’s new GHS start/end times. The idea of a non-rotating “opportunity block” at the end of the day would allow athletes to leave for games without missing a core academic subject. Most of the board members reacted very favorably.
