Junior League of Greenwich Comes Through for Safe Rides to the Tune of $5,000

The Junior League of Greenwich has come through with a Community Grant of $5,000 to help get Safe Rides back up and running on a regular Friday and Saturday night schedule. The program, previously under the auspices of Red Cross was dropped when that organization decided to focus on its disaster relief efforts. Teens in the First Selectman’s Youth Commission have advocated loudly and tirelessly that the program was a life saver and worthy of being restored. The Junior League of Greenwich listened. Unique In-Water Experience: Greenwich Boat Show April 11-12

Local residents and boaters from throughout the Northeast praise the Greenwich Boat Show as being among their favorite shows. This year’s Greenwich Boat Show will be held April 11 and 12, from 10-4pm, on the Mianus River in Cos Cob, where boaters are invited to walk the docks and actually go out on the open waters of Long Island Sound. State Rep Mike Bocchino. From Orientation to Border Toll Battle

State Rep (R-Dist 150) Mike Bocchino, the Greenwich native who was elected last November, reflects on his first two months in office, and his committee assignments. He and his official mentor, Fred Camillo (Dist. 151) co-sponsored Emily’s Law.They also recently testified before the Transportation Committee against adding any tolls on I-95 the state line. Mr. Bocchino said a border toll on the New York-Connecticut line would be right behind a school zone and heavy pedestrian area, and that tech-savvy drivers already use their phones and GPS to find alternate routes on local roads. Audi Wins Rematch at P&Z in Overtime

Despite a show of force by RTM members and neighbors of the Audi dealership on West Putnam Ave, Audi won approval for their expansion and updates to exterior lighting. Peter Quigley, member of the harbor commission expressed “grave” concerns about pollution to Horseneck Brook, which feeds into Long Island Sound. There was also vociferous opposition came from a stream of RTM members from all parts of town, including Mike Warner, Peter Berg and Bill Galvin, as well as Ginny Gwynn, director of Greenwich Land Trust. 28 New Snow Emergency Streets Brings Greenwich’s Total to 88

The Board of Selectmen recently voted to add 20 new snow emergency routes, bringing the total to 88 in Town. Familiarize yourselves with the routes, which are scattered throughout town, so you don’t get ticketed or towed in the next storm. Safe Boating Course at Greenwich Police HQ

A one-day Coast Guard Auxiliary “About Boating Safely” course provides qualification for a CT motorboat operator’s permit, as well as a Personal Watercraft (PWC) Operator’s Permit which is also acceptable for a New York boating license. Commuter Action Group’s Jim Cameron: Is Metro-North a Vendor, Partner or Fanged Sloth?

After 19 years as a member of the Commuter Council, Jim Cameron resigned, but did not quit. Cameron formed the Commuter Action Group, inviting commuters to use a web app, Twitter and Facebook to bypass the DOT and Metro-North to appeal directly to legislators. According to Cameron, complaints about safety and delays have inundated legislators in Hartford.
