Western Middle School Principal and Staff to Share Magnet/AVID Information at Greenwich Elementary Schools

Western Middle School Principal Gordon Beinstein and his staff will be visiting Greenwich elementary schools in January and February to talk about the school’s magnet program. Parents of 4th and 5th graders are encouraged to attend to learn about the school’s AVID program, its mission and staff, as well as how Western prepares students for Greenwich High School. Western Middle School ranked third out of all middle schools in Connecticut, according to data released by the state Dept of Education in 2019 that included metrics measuring growth in Math and ELL, as well as physical fitness and access to arts education. Beinstein, the 2019 Connecticut Public Schools Middle School Principal of the Year, has said the rise reflects the acknowledgement that one method of teaching doesn’t fit all students. Greenwich Schools Announce Magnet School Open Houses Start Jan 7

Julian Curtiss offers the choice of learning either Spanish or French in grades K-5. New Lebanon School, Preschool-Grade 5, is an authorized International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme school and has been a magnet school since 2009. Western Middle School, Grades 6-8, re-opened as a magnet school in 2013 and is currently offering an AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) magnet program/theme. Continue Reading →

Western Middle School Unveils Plaque in Memory of Steven Sudell

On Tuesday at Western Middle School’s Barbara Jacowleff recalled when a student gave her a letter to pass along to Steven Sudell. She said the letter described a time in elementary school when the girl had felt like an outcast and sat alone at lunch. She said Steven noticed this and went to sit with her at lunch.
