On Tuesday at Western Middle School’s Barbara Jacowleff recalled when a student gave her a letter to pass along to Steven Sudell. She said the letter described a time in elementary school when the girl had felt like an outcast and sat alone at lunch. She said Steven noticed this and went to sit with her at lunch. Western Middle School’s event “Greenwich Braves the Shave” will take place on Thursday, March 14 starting at 6:00pm to benefit the St. Baldrick’s Foundation. The event includes entertainment from J & the B-Sides. This annual event enlists “shavees” to shave their head to raise money for childhood cancer research. “We have over 20 shavees signed up,” reported Kerry Gavin, Western Middle School Assistant Principal and event organizer. “There is still time to sign up and help us reach our goal.” Continue Reading →

While staying at Yale New Haven Hospital, Steven and his family liked to go to their healing garden as often as possible. There they saw the Smilow Rocks from The Kindness Rocks Project, with inspiring phrases painted on them to encourage patients.
Since getting home Steven and his family have started painting their own rocks and visiting Cos Cob Park, which Steven calls his big healing garden. Others have also joined in bringing painted rocks and planting them in Cos Cob Park. Continue Reading →
Charging $1 for paperback and $2 for hardcover books, students had the opportunity to buy plenty of books to kick-start their summer reading. The proceeds will go towards the Western Middle School PTA and leftover books will be donated to the Byram Shubert Library. Continue Reading →
