Preventing Suicide: Reaching Out & Saving Lives

An American dies by suicide every 13 minutes—the equivalent of a fatal commercial plane crash about every 3 days. Panelists from the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention talk about suicide and what we can do. From their personal stories and the work they do to educate, research, support, and advocate, the panel sheds light on the many faces of suicide. Learn how you can reach out to prevent suicide, support those bereaved by suicide, stand in solidarity with survivors, and help those at risk. Letting the Sun Shine on Community Centers Inc “CCI”

While many Greenwich residents are familiar with Abilis, River House, Neighbor to Neighbor, and Family Centers there is one very busy social services agency in the heart of downtown Greenwich that is less often in the spotlight. Community Centers Inc., “CCI” for short, runs several homework clubs in Greenwich Public Schools. Delayed School Start Rally: Voices in Favor of Change Include Tesei and Farricker

Greenwich is quiet this week, but a rally to kick-off a petition campaign for a delayed start time for Greenwich High School drew a sizable crowd to Town Hall Thursday night. It was pointed out that GHS started later until the Mianus Bridge collapsed. To alleviate congestion on roadways school start was changed from 7:50 am to 7:30. Need Volunteer Hours? Garden Education Center Has Sunday Teen Volunteer Opportunities This Year

Deanna Novak, director of children’s programs at the Garden Education Center, has been busy running summer camp and bringing gardening and composting to Greenwich summer school. When school starts this fall, Novak could use some teens seeking volunteer hours to help once or twice a month for two hours on Sunday afternoons. Tesei Reacts to News of Palosz Lawsuit against Town and Board of Education

First Selectman Tesei described the Palosz lawsuit is a complex matter and and said, “There is much more to this than has been reported.” He said for the town to offer a settlement requires members of the Board of Selectmen, the BET and the RTM Claims Committee each have to have a majority agree, and that in this case, “There were those who felt the Town has a defensible position in the case and would like to see it adjudicated.” Continue Reading →
