All Smiles at First Presbyterian Church Nursery School 2nd Annual Family Fall Festival & Book Fair

At First Presbyterian Church Nursery School’s second annual Family Fall Festival and Book Fair, children enjoyed playing on the playground, picking out new books to fill their bookshelves at home, watching a magician and balloon artist, eating grilled cheese at the MeltMobile and picking out goodies at the bake sale. First Presbyterian Church Nursery School is accepting applications for students looking to enroll for the 2016-2017 school year. NBA’s Phaethon Bolton Shares Story of Success, Reflects on Chair Time, Riding Van to Boys & Girls Club

Phaeton Bolton works for the NBA, but he shared his memories of taking the van to the Club after school, benefiting from occasional “Chair Time” and knowing that staff at the Club really cared for the children. As part of the Junior Business Leaders program he started with fellow alum Keith Ward, Mr. Bolton spoke of the importance of finding one’s passion, working hard and persevering despite the naysayers. BOE’s Sherr: Start Time Steering Committee Members Need to Be Honest Brokers

At Thursday night’s Board of Education meeting at Eastern Middle School, the topic of school start time came up multiple times, including GHS student government leaders’ remarks, the teacher union president remarks, parent comments during public hearing portion, and even concerns raised by board member Peter Sherr. “There’s going to be impassioned views on both sides of this because there is a lot of stakeholders in this,” Mr. Sherr said, but he stressed that the steering committee members must be objective, “honest brokers.” “There is somebody on the committee who is very involved in student activities and is impassioned about their job…walking around the neighborhood and across town, just vigorously against the change,” Mr. Sherr said. Directing his next comment to the Superintendent, he said, “I would hope at the next meeting that maybe you could spend some time resetting the approach of the committee members so that they all understand what we’re trying to accomplish.
