The Fairfield Ave Bridge, which crosses over I-95 in Norwalk, has reopened ahead of schedule and under budget. The new bridge, spanning approximately 170 feet in length over I-95, maintains sidewalks on both sides and reduces the width of the vehicle travel lanes to better accommodate bicyclists. Some 150,000 vehicles pass through Stamford’s exits 6 and 7 daily, and the situation is dangerous with so many exits close to each other. Work involved demolishing the Fairfield Avenue Bridge over I-95 because of the significant damage it sustained from Thursday’s collision involving a car, tractor trailer and fuel tanker; removing tons of concrete, steel, and debris from the roadway; sweeping the road; milling; paving; and restriping pavement markings.
