On Wednesday a Wilbur Peck resident peeled the plastic baseboard off her kitchen floor and roaches poured out. The Housing Authority of Greenwich executive director Anthony Johnson said tenants need to take responsibility for their units. “We work with people to save them. We work with social services. We put people on payment plans above and beyond what we are required to do,” Mr. Johnson said. “This is not a concentration camp. After a new gender-neutral red cap and gown for graduation 2016 became controversial, and a petition circulated on change.org to continue the tradition of red and white gowns, the headmaster retracted his decision on Thursday. Headmaster Winters said students had been denied a voice in the decision process and that he regretted not having engaged students along the way. He signed off by vowing to respect and seek multiple points of view, giving a nod to creating leaders through Cardinal Rules ‘freedom with responsibility. “I look forward to a celebratory graduation with students marching in their chosen gowns of red or white.” Continue Reading →
