Greenwich School Board Reverses Itself on Pre-K at Riverside School Renovation Ed Specs

BOE member Veronica Chiavaroli said other Greenwich elementary schools already house district programs besides their K-5 responsibilities. Riverside does not. Pre-K for children age 3, 4 and 5 is required by federal law to be provided for free for special education students who are in class with peer students who pay tuition. Sound Beach Day School’s Shared Curiosity Homes in on Spotted Lanternfly

Each year, our program follows the Connecticut Early Learning and Development Standards (CT ELDS) by observing children’s emerging interests and using them as a foundation for meaningful, project-based learning. This year, a shared curiosity developed around the spotted lanternfly, an invasive species frequently found on our playground. Children expressed excitement and curiosity as they noticed these insects outdoors, often discussing what they observed and asking questions. Through guided exploration, they learned that spotted lanternflies can harm native plants and trees by feeding on sap and leaving behind a sticky residue that can lead to the growth of sooty mold. This discovery supported early science learning, encouraging children to build awareness of ecosystems, cause and effect, and environmental responsibility. Continue Reading →
