State Rep. Livvy Floren Will Run Again After All

After recently announcing her intention to retire, State Rep Livvy Floren, who represents (R, 149th District) has decided she will run run again in November for what could very well be her 8th term in office, according to a report from Greenwich Post. On Wednesday morning fiends and colleagues began posting support to the wall of Floren’s Facebook page. According to Floren’s bio on her website, Floren was appointed by Republican Leader Larry Cafero as ranking member of the General Bonding Sub-committee where she serves on the State Bond Commission. She also serves on the General Assembly’s Finance, Revenue & Bonding Committee and the Committee on Aging. Greenwich Police “Tribute to Heroes Motorcycle” Ceremony Set for Saturday

The Greenwich Police Department will officially unveil their, “Tribute to Heroes” motorcycle during a ceremony on Saturday, March 15 which will begin at 10:00a.m. in the lobby of The Public Safety Complex on Bruce Place. The motorcycle has been elaborately painted in a fashion to honor the heroes of The 911 terrorist attacks on our country and honor the three Greenwich Police Officers who lost their lives in the line of duty. The motorcycle project was a collaborative effort by many members of the police department including Sgt. John Slusarz, Officer Dave Stewart, and our motorcycle officers assigned to the Traffic Section. Additionally, The Silver Shield Association provided financial support to the project. Fairfield County Giving Day – $618K Raised Despite Delays, Slowdowns and Interruptions

Arts and environment non-profits were among the most successful organizations on Fairfield County Giving Day, the online 24-hour day of giving that  took place March 7. In one day, a total of 15,423 donations were received by local nonprofits totaling $618,229.64. An additional $127,500 in prizes funded by the Fairfield County Community Foundation, Bank of America and other corporate and community sponsors, were awarded to more than 50 nonprofits. All combined the first-ever Giving Day raised $745,729.64 for more than 250 local nonprofits. Curtain Call of Stamford was the big winner, taking home a $25,000 prize for the most individual donations received with 1,890 donations totaling $30,675. Continue Reading →

Welcome to Your Flinn Gallery. It’s Free and Open to the Public.

Anyone who has ever wondered about the Flinn Gallery at Greenwich Library need know one fact: The gallery is free and open to the public. Part-time gallery manager Cynthia Whalen remarked that some visitors presume the gallery is private, or open by invitation, when in fact she and the Gallery volunteers who take turns staffing the gallery desk very much enjoy meeting artists, greeting visitors and answering questions. “People come to the door and are sort of tentative, or think it is private,” Whalen said. “And everything is usually for sale here.” A gallery member and volunteer since 1993,  Whalen was hired  two years ago so that the gallery might have a more consistent presence in the library. 1 Cup Softened Unsalted Butter
1 Cup Light Brown Sugar
3/4 Cup Sugar
2 Room Temperature Eggs
1 1/2 Cups Unbleached Flour
1 1/2 Teaspoons Kosher Salt
1 Teaspoon Baking Powder
1/2 Teaspoon Freshly Ground Nutmeg
3 Cups Old-Fashioned Rolled Oats
1 1/2 Cups Dried Blueberries

Greenwich Police Arrest Convent of the Sacred Heart Teacher

On January 23, 2014, the Greenwich Police Department informed the Convent of the Sacred Heart of an investigation they had opened into a reported incident that allegedly took place in the fall of 2009 between a former student and our faculty member Michael Maida. The safety of our students is our highest priority. Following established policy, we immediately contacted the Connecticut Department of Children and Families and placed Mr. Maida on Administrative Leave pending further investigation. Mr. Maida has been a teacher with us for 17 years and has unequivocally denied that the alleged incident, of which we had no prior knowledge, occurred. GHS Math Team Are Fairfield County Math League Champs

The Greenwich High School Math Team won its fifth consecutive Fairfield County Math League Competition in Wilton last week. After competing in five matches this year with teams from throughout Fairfield County, the Greenwich Cardinals led the March 5 competition in solving mathematical problems in Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry and more. Greenwich High School Math Cardinals will now compete for their 6th straight Connecticut State Math League championship in Hebron, CT on March 31. Continue Reading →

NY School for the Deaf “Sign On” Performs for GHS Sign Language Students

Dozens of Greenwich High School Sign Language II students were visited by eight students from NY School for the Deaf on Tuesday. The visiting performing arts group, “Sign On,” shared their storytelling skills, performed skits and fielded all sorts of questions from the GHS students. The visit provided insights into the deaf community, culture, and American Sign Langauge (ASL). Viviana Conner, the district’s World Language Coordinator, said seven languages are offered at GHS and that students can take Sign Language all four years to satisfy the school’s graduation requirement. The school also offers Chinese, German, French, Italian, Latin and Spanish. Continue Reading →
