Do you need a great reason to shred old personal documents and financial statements on April 26th? Here are a few: Earth Day, Spring cleaning, paper recycling, protection from identity theft. That’s probably enough, but here’s another – an opportunity to donate to our local food pantry. * Cost to participate: Donate 1 can of Tuna or Fruit per box of paper, or $1/box
* Max: 8 boxes of paper per car, shredded on-site
* Shredding trucks will be at Island Beach parking lot April 26th, 9am to 1pm
* Paper shreds will be recycled

Cooperation from Mother Nature for Earth Day Month Kick-Off at Greenwich Point

The Earth Day month kicked-off on Sunday at Greenwich Point with nary a sign of winter. With a perfect blue sky and mild temps, the outdoor events included a first-Sunday bird walk, a beach cleanup and a dune grass planting. Meanwhile, the Floren Family Education Center inside the Innis Arden Cottage, was a hive of activity that culminated in an Earth Day proclamation read by Selectman David Theis. The beach cleanup project was spearheaded by the Sound Waters interns and Sound Waters educator, Amy Arent. Ellen Hebrand, a Sound Waters intern who is a junior at Darien High School, said she and her fellow interns hail from Greenwich, Stamford and Darien. Continue Reading →

Everything Dogs: Little Boy Blue Needs a Home

For days Blue’s dog walker didn’t see him in the apartment building and grew concerned. After remembering that Blue’s owner sometimes tied him to the roof, the dog walker went there to have a look. Blue had been left tied out on the roof in the pouring rain. The dog walker later found out that Blue’s owner had died in a car accident. Now this owner had a shady past and our friend, and hero, the dog walker opted to bring Blue into his small apartment in the South Bronx where he was watching another woman’s pit bull and caring for his own poodle and cat. Two years ago Travis Sluss trusted his gut and moved MacInspires from a tiny storefront in Byram to a spot at the top of Greenwich Avenue, quadrupling square footage and gaining coveted classroom space. It was a big leap at the time, but Sluss, who had previously lived and worked on the Avenue, recognized the space and location as ideal. Four Legs Remain Steady
The MacInspires team has also expanded. Continuing the mission to inspire, Sluss said, “We get a huge kick out of seeing customers learn and create things they didn’t think they were capable of.” Expanding education offerings to “tours” and camps, they’ve remained true to the original four “legs” of the operation: Repair, Consulting, Retail and Education. GHS Grads Break Silence on Drugs from Marijuana to Heroin

On Thursday the YMCA of Greenwich and Liberation Programs hosted a seminar to help parents talk with their teens about drugs. Liberation youth options counselor, Cerissa Orbegoso, whose office is housed inside the Greenwich YMCA, introduced former client Mark Pelazza, the featured speaker. Pelazza, now a soft-spoken, clean-cut 24-year-old, described growing up in Greenwich in a loving family who gave him everything he ever wanted.
