Copper Beech Farm Sells for $120 Million to “The Conservation Institute, LLC”

On Thursday Copper Beech Farm, a 50+ acre waterfront property sold for $120 Million to Conservation Institute LLC, a Connecticut Limited Liability Company with an Atlantic St address in Stamford. The seller was Wyoming Corporation, in care of Fogarty Cohen Selby & Nemiroff LLC of  Old Greenwich. The town conveyance tax was $300,000, and the State conveyance tax was $1,496,000. The property was once owned by the Lauder Greenway family. Harriet Lauder Greenway was the daughter of George Lauder, a partner in Carnegie Steel. Continue Reading →

Why Do Kids Use Drugs? GHS Guest Speaker Asks Tough Question

Ginger Katz visited Greenwich High School on Thursday to talk about her son, Ian. About 200 students filed into the auditorium and Wellness Teacher Kathy Steiner introduced Katz, who described her son as having had a big heart, which she attributed partly to his sister, Candace, who has Downs Syndrome. Ian went to Norwalk High School. He went to his prom, had a nice girlfriend and played lacrosse before going on to University of Hartford. But Ian also had a long battle with drugs before he died of an overdose in 1996 at the age of 20. Continue Reading →

GHS Senior, Race Car Champion Has a Message for Drivers

Ben Albano likes to drive fast. In fact, he loves to race cars. And he tends to win. The GHS senior was honored last month in Greenwich Public School’s community service awards for his efforts to raise awareness of distracted driving. GHS English teacher Brigid Barry said during the ceremony that if Ben spots you on your phone in the car, expect him to tap on your window and politely ask you to stop. Continue Reading →

Grim Reaper Day at GHS: Student Reactions Vary

Grim Reaper Day took place at Greenwich High School on Tuesday with 42 students playing the role of “ghosts” throughout the day. The program was an effort of the Outreach Club, which sponsors alcohol-free events with a goal of keeping kids safe in Greenwich, but was open to anyone pledging to remain silent the entire school day and forgo the use of their cell phone. About a half hour before the chaotic school dismissal, a few students were milling around the GHS entrance. Junior, Caysy Livia, said when she realized the placards were indeed true stories of deaths caused by risky behavior she was surprised, but dubious. “It doesn’t really change the way people behave,” Livia said. Tiny New York Kitchen: Baked Tilapia Tacos With Avocado Cream

Every once in awhile I get in a Mexican food mood. These tacos are light and won’t make you feel weighed down. Besides, fish tacos are delicious! INGREDIENTS

1 Pound Tilapia Fillets
Vegetable Cooking Spray
1/2 Teaspoon Grated Lime Zest
2 Tablespoon Fresh Lime Juice
1 Tablespoon Canola Oil
1 Minced Garlic Cloves
1/2 Teaspoon Hot Pepper Sauce
1/4 Teaspoon Ground Pepper
1/4 Teaspoon Kosher Salt
12 Hard Taco Shells
1 1/2 Cups Fresh Salsa
2 Cups Lettuce
1 Medium Diced Avocado
1 Cup Sour Cream
