The GCDS Schwarz Campus is 41.5 acres in the RA-1 zone and the school does not receive any FAR bonus for educational use. The Schwarz Campus at 23 Fairfield Road was originally part of the F.A.O. Schwarz estate, which goes all the way to Cardinal Road. Even if the school added the requested units, they would still have remaining FAR, but the discussion revolved around the proposed multi-family apartment building in the RA-1 single family zone.

Greenwich Free Press spoke in depth with Colin Pearson whose parents own the bed and breakfast on Maple Ave in central Greenwich. The house was abandoned during the Depression, purchased by Pearson’s grandfather when Victorian homes were considered white elephants, but the Town declined his request to demolish the structure. Quentin Pearson had hoped to replace the historic home with a medical office building. At the heels of week in which a spurned prom invitation resulted in tragedy, a Father’s Forum talk on cultivating resilience in children was timely. GHS Wellness teacher Kathy Steiner said she had recently been talking about stress, stressors and stress management with her 9th graders. Fear of Failure – You Must be a Super Star
Steiner said, “I don’t care how old or young you are, or how much money you make, we all have stress.” But for her what matters is a person’s ability to turn their stress into opportunity. Sudden cardiac arrest can affect even accomplished young athletes, so it is very important that coaches and parents know the warning signs and remove students who exhibit them from play. Legislation will provide for greater awareness among coaches, student athletes and parents. The legislation was inspired in part by the tragic story of Andy Peña, a Darien student athlete who died of sudden cardiac arrest in 2011, just one month away from turning 15. Continue Reading →
