Interview with BOE Incumbent Seeking Re-Election Peter von Braun: “I Get Things Done”

Board of Education incumbent, Peter von Braun, has decades of experience in education including projects in 30 countries. Here in Greenwich he would like to see consistent academics, vocational and career prep tracks at GHS, and thinks that adding STEM at Ham Ave magnet school is a false promise of a future job. “So a kid applies to Lockheed and says, ‘I took Astrophysics in 3rd grade?’ That’s not career preparation.” He’d like to see JM Wright tech recruiters in Greenwich middle schools and is concerned that “middle-packers” are not achieving their potential at GHS. “Because if you want to be a successful plumber you have to have an MBA?”

Mr. von Braun was knighted by the Queen of England for his dedicated efforts in education over the years. He said his theme is, “I get things done.” Continue Reading →

Interview with Greenwich Board of Education Candidate Anthony Lopez

Anthony Lopez is a Greenwich father of three who works as an aide at Greenwich High School. He grew up in Brooklyn and has struggled to get through college. Though he now maintains a 4.0 and is in three honor societies, he said, “I understand what it means to have to live up to an expectation because of who you are and how much money you have.” He said that all young students are under pressures they don’t always reveal. “I know what it means to need to have somebody on your side,” he said.
