Board of Selectmen’s Field Trip to New Leb Ravine: Visualizing a New School

On Friday a group of about 20 members of the BET, RTM Board of Education, the Schools Superintendent, neighborhood residents, media, candidates for the building committee and all three selectmen walked the perimeter of the proposed New Lebanon School, the longest portion of which parallels the edge of the ball field and forms a horseshoe that opens onto wetland and woodland. Greenwich and OG Lions Collaborate for Sophisticated Eye Screening at BANC

On any given school day, the Byram Archibald Neighborhood Center (BANC), is a hive of activity. The New Lebanon School kindergarten classes are currently housed there. Then, after school Christina Nappi runs a program for about 65 New Leb children in K-3 until 5:30pm. On Thursday, members of the Old Greenwich and Greenwich Lions Clubs gave free vision screenings to the children. More than a simple acuity test, the Lions Clubs sophisticated camera tested for eye disorders including far and near sightedness, astigmatism, anisometropia, strabismus and anisocoria. New Leb School Teaches a Lesson in Diversity

Greenwich Schools celebrated a Diversity month, but on Friday New Lebanon School celebrated student diversity in a clever exercise where 5th graders mingled with younger students in the cafeteria, using conversational skills they’d practiced with school psychologist Jessica Mcevily. The students used an acronym SOLER to remember how to master the art of conversation. SOLDER stands for Square (sit up straight with square shoulders), Open, Lean, Eye contact and Relax.
