Laurel House to Honor Dr. Barry, Commissioner Dept of Social Services for Greenwich

Laurel House will honor Alan Barry, PhD, Commissioner of Social Services for the Town of Greenwich at its 3rd annual Derby Dinner Dance on May 2. The dinner dance, “Champions for Recovery,” will take place at the Woodway Country Club in Darien. This year’s event celebrates Laurel House’s success in helping people with mental illness get jobs, go to school, secure housing and engage in the community. Proceeds from the event will be used to sustain critical support to program participants and their families. Alan D. Top Stories of the Week: Youth of the Year, Harbor House Inn, Clarke Award

At Tuesday’s Planning & Zoning meeting, neighbors of the Harbor House Inn expressed surprise and skepticism at plans to convert the 22 room inn to a 6-family dwelling. Later in the week, Greenwich Schools announced that Bob DeAngelo, former leader of the Boys & Girls Club, would be the June 18 graduation speaker. That same day a new football coach at GHS was announced. John Marinelli comes to us from New Canaan. Congratulations! On Thursday night a fantastic teen named Alberto Larraguibel, aka “Chile,” was honored as Boys and Girls Club of Greenwich’s Youth of the Year in a ceremony that had the tears flowing.
