Top Stories of the Week: Youth of the Year, Harbor House Inn, Clarke Award

Mike, Chile and Drew GladstoneWho says good news doesn’t sell? On Thursday, Alberto Larraguibel was honored at the Boys & Girls Club of Greenwich as Youth of the Year and promptly garnered 353 Facebook likes on Greenwich Free Press.

When Alberto, affectionately known as ‘Chile’, embraced his friend and mentor Mike Gerald and spoke of his gratitude to the Club that became his second home when he spoke no English and had no friends, the tears spilled.

At the age of 10, Alberto, arrived in Glenville speaking no English and having no friends. He was embraced at the Boys & Girls Club and mentored by Mike Gerald and others at the Club. At Tuesday night’s Planning & Zoning meeting, Old Greenwich neighbors of the Harbor House Inn turned out to voice surprise and concern about plans in the work to convert the 23 room inn to a six-unit dwelling. UPDATE: Neighbors Wary of Harbor House Inn Change to a 6-Unit Residence

On the same day, Thursday, Greenwich Public Schools announced that Bob DeAngelo would be the GHS graduation speaker and that John Marinelli had been appointed head football coach at GHS.
