Greenwich First Selectman Explains Safe Rides “Funding Mix-Up”

Safe Rides has struggled to find footing after being dropped two years ago by the Red cross who decided to double down on their focus on disaster relief. Subsequently Safe Rides was kept afloat by the Junior League and Transportation Association of Greenwich, before inadvertently being omitted from the town Budget. Eversource Brings Out-of-State Crews to Help Restore Power after Powerful Winds Wreak Havoc in CT

Crews from Massachusetts and New Hampshire, as well as contractors from New York and Pennsylvania, will soon be assisting Eversource with the restoration effort in Connecticut. After assessing the widespread and vast destruction to the electric system, Eversource expects to have power restored for a majority of customers by 11:30pm Friday night. The company restores outages affecting the largest number of customers first, so outages that affect a smaller number of customers may take longer, as they are oftentimes more labor-intensive. In Greenwich, Bizarre Weather Causes Downed Trees/Wires and Detours

For access to Central Middle School and surrounding areas, please note this travel advisory: Orchard is CLOSED between Valleywood Road (South of Orchard) and Indian Rock Road (North end of Orchard). Drivers and walkers should detour to STANWICH ROAD for access. Greenwich Police Department is on site directing traffic. In the Thursday morning police briefing Greenwich Police Sgt Slusarz said that anyone encountering downed wires is advised to stay away, and call either Eversource or Greenwich Police. Potholes are an Expensive Sign of Spring

Potholes cost US drivers about $3 billion annually, according to AAA, who urge state and local governments to fully fund and prioritize road maintenance to reduce vehicle damage, repair costs and driver frustration. If a pothole can’t be avoided, reduce your speed. But check your rearview mirror before any abrupt braking. Just before you roll into the pothole, release your foot off the brake.
