One of the two Island Beach ferries will remain out of service for the coming weekend, July 9-10.
According to a release from the Department of Parks and Recreation on Thursday, during the final engine installation, further complications arose and the deadline for a US Coast Guard inspection will be missed, so the boat won’t be operational in time for the weekend.
As a result, ferry service to Island Beach will continue to run daily every hour on the hour 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. from the Arch Street Ferry Dock. (rather than every half hour, which is possible when there are two ferries in service)
Parks & Rec will continue to have additional crew to expedite the boarding and disembarking process. This will enable the Indian Harbor to carry her maximum capacity of 211 passengers.
With only one ferry in operation, the Dixieland Jazz Band Concert on the Sound scheduled for Sunday, July 10, 2016 will take place at the Arch St. Ferry dock. The performance will be from 3:30 p.m. until 5:30 p.m.
Parks & Rec will provide updates as necessary, and appreciate everyone’s patience and cooperation.
Ferry service to Great Captain Island will not be affected and will operate on its posted schedule.
