Greenwich High School’s Ian Tiedemann Receives Council for Economic Education’s 2019 Alfred P. Sloan Foundation Award

Ian Tiedemann, a teacher at Greenwich High School, will receive the Council for Economic Education’s 2019 Alfred P. Sloan Foundation Teaching Champion Award.

The award recognizes excellence in economic education.

Tiedemann, who is beginning his 15th year at GHS, teaches a variety of subjects including AP Economics and freshmen social studies. He also advises students for the Euro Challenge, Federal Reserve challenge and Model UN. He even supervised a Frisbee club until there was a shortage of field space.

In 2016 he received the Greenwich schools distinguished teacher award.

Mr. Tiedemann’s award comes with a scholarship to attend Council for Economic Education’s 58th annual conference in Los Angeles and $2,500 for Greenwich High School to support economic and financial education.

The Council for Economic Education honors three outstanding educators from the New York Metropolitan area annually.

Tiedemann will officially be presented with the award at a ceremony on Wednesday, October 23.

The Council for Economic Education awards committee was particularly impressed with Tiedemann’s passion for economics, inclusion of various external resources and texts, and continued commitment to economic education.

“Teaching and learning is a journey, along which we can become the best version of ourselves,” Tiedemann said, adding, “While CEE’s Sloan Award is a tremendous personal honor, I would also attribute this achievement to my students, the community and my colleagues at Greenwich High School.”

Tiedemann holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Lafayette College and a Masters in Education from the University of Connecticut Neag School of Education.
