Putnam Hill Hill Daughters of the American Revolution Announce Student Essay Contest

The Putnam Hill Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) had a kick off tea party and luncheon in honor of this year’s DAR national contest. Grades 5-8 “Enjoying a new Kind of Tea Party” (600-1000 words required)

In the 1770’s there was a movement of protest from the Colonists against the British due taxes and laws. Along the eastern coast a number of Patriots held “tea” parties. The Boston Tea Party was on Dec. 16, 1773, and several other Tea Parties followed in 1774 in SC and NC where ladies refused to buy or burn British Tea. Continue Reading →
