VIDEO, PHOTOS: Mega Turnout for 2023 New Year’s Day Plunge at Tod’s Point

Thousands of people headed to Tod’s Point on Sunday, New Year’s Day 2023, an unseasonably warm winter day, with temps in the 50°s. The traffic was bumper to bumper from much of Sound Beach Ave and all along Shore Road, and the parking lot was as full as a sunny Saturday in July.

Many charged into the water, while family and friends cheered them on. Meanwhile others took advantage of the traffic free program, which runs Sundays from 9:30am to 12:30pm, to walk, bike ride or jog. And, since it’s dog season, there were countless dogs both in and out of the water.

There was no countdown, and the event was not officially sanctioned by the town, but at 12:00 noon, hundreds plunged into the frigid waters of Long Island Sound. Brave souls all. Happy New Year!
