Tiny New York Kitchen: Truffle Brownies

By Victoria Hart Glavin of Tiny New York Kitchen

I have been in the biggest chocolate mood for the past two weeks. These brownies are unbelievably delicious and easy to make, especially when you use the parchment paper as a liner. The dense and creamy texture is more like a confection than a brownie. INGREDIENTS

2 Cups Dark Chocolate Chips
3 Tablespoons Unsalted Butter
3 Tablespoons Water
1 Cup Sugar
1/2 Teaspoon Kosher Salt
1 Teaspoon Vanilla Extract
3 Large Eggs (Room Temperature)
1/4 Cup Unbleached Flour

Move your oven rack to the center and preheat to 325 degrees. Line an 8 inch square pan with parchment paper. Continue Reading →

Pisani: “Grandmothers Will Save the World, or at Least Greenwich, Connecticut”

“Life goes by too fast,” Joe Pisani said to the members of the Woman’s Club during his visit to their clubhouse on Maple Ave on Thursday afternoon. Pisani said that the last time he gave a talk at the Woman’s Club was 30 years ago, and pointed out that when he left the Stamford Advocate and Greenwich Time there were 110 in the newsroom and today there are roughly just 15-20. “That just gives you an idea of the extent of change that’s occurred in a short time in local journalism,” Pisani said. “And it’s unfortunate.” That said, Pisani, who currently works for a public relations company and writes a column for Greenwich Post, made the topic of parenting and grandparenting his theme on Thursday. New Leb Kindergarten to Relocate to BANC for 2014-15

The Board of Education announced in a press release Thursday morning that New Lebanon School’s (NLS) Kindergarten will be held at the Byram Archibald Neighborhood Center (BANC) for at least the 2014-2015 school year. Kindergarteners will start the school day at BANC for their academic classes. Then they will take a school bus to New Lebanon for the second half of the day. That means they’ll be at New Leb for lunch, recess and specials including FLES, art, music, physical education, and media. This solution ensures  that current students in grades K-4 will “maintain their elementary school experience” at the New Lebanon School facility according to the BOE press release. Cardinals JV Boys Hockey Lose in Tie-Breaker at Brunswick

In a nail-biter of a game, GHS Cardinals were leading Brunswick 5-4, but with just 19 seconds on the clock,  Brunswick scored, bringing the two teams to a 5-5 tie. With 5 minutes added to the clock for a show-down, Brunswick scored, winning the game 6-5. Kudos to GHS sophomore Daniel Gazaille, Cardinals goalie, who fended off countless shots at goal. Next year, Greenwich Free Press will start earlier in the season and cover more games. What great fun! Continue Reading →

UPDATE: Two’s Company Closes on Greenwich Ave

UPDATE Feb. 19, 10:30a.m.: GFP spoke to Marsha Stocker, the real estate agent from Love Realty in White Plains who has the listing for 68 Greenwich Avenue. Stocker said that because Two’s Company was a “concept store,” the intention of the owners was never to remain permanently on Greenwich Ave., but rather to garner information through a retail outlet. “The owners sell to the trade and they did it to get information. They never intended to stay forever,” said Stocker, who said Two’s Company holds amazing sales in Elmsford  at 500 Saw Mill River Rd. Continue Reading →
