BOE Fodder: Fixing Spotty Wi-Fi inside GHS; Providing Greenwich Students with Wi-Fi at Home

At Thursday’s Board of Education meeting, GHS student government leader Spencer Faragasso said that a survey of students revealed that Wi-Fi in the building is spotty at best. Phil Dunn said 25 students have been identified as not having Wi-Fi at home and he was excited by an announcement that same day from Charter Communications in Stamford that they would make available Wi-Fi for $15.00 a month for low income students. Later Start Start Time Advocates Press Board of Ed to Give SST Committee a Mandate

At Thursday’s Board of Education meeting a dozen parents took turns at the microphone during the public hearing portion of the meeting. They all urged the Board and Superintendent to issue a policy directive to the school start time steering committee. They said that a clear mandate would make their task less ambiguous. In response, Dr McKersie said, “I think it is healthy to have some debate and discussion.” He said a transportation consultant was nearly selected and insisted that the committee is focusing on the “how” rather than the “if.” Continue Reading →

John Yoon to Return to GHS. Future of Last Chance Agreement Hangs in the Balance.

Town Attorney Wayne Fox told the Board of Education it was not in their purview to made decisions about the validity of the 2014 Last Chance Agreement signed by John Yoon. At Thursday’s Boad of Education meeting, a parent of 3 GHS grads urged the Board of Education to re-examine it in short order and “avoid a repeat of what was an expensive, time consuming and emotionally charged process.” Continue Reading →
