You know school is starting soon when the state announces “Tax Free Week.”
Per statute the 19th annual Tax Free Sales Week, which begins on the third Sunday of each August, is right around the corner. This is a great opportunity for some back-to-school shopping and to prepare for the fall season. Certain clothing and footwear items under $100 will be exempt from the state’s sale tax during this time. This year the week runs from Saturday, August 18th – Sunday, August 24th
The one-week event eliminates Connecticut’s 6.35% sales tax on clothing and footwear costing less than $100 per item. Tax Free Week was first enacted in 2000, and applies to most clothing and footwear purchases intended for everyday use. Continue Reading →

An application has been submitted to the Dept of Public Works Buildings division to demolish a home at 34 Connecticut Avenue. The single family home, in the R-6 zone is located in central Greenwich adjacent to Union Cemetery. The house was built in 1890. Because the home was built before 1940, a written letter of objection submitted to the Building Division of DPW will trigger an additional 45 day stay of demolition. Greenwich Schools Director of Human Resources Robert Stacy will depart the district and head to Stamford Schools. The appointment was announced by Stamford Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Tamu Lucero and the Stamford Board of Education on Tuesday. The Stamford Board of Education voted unanimously this week to name Mr. Stacy as the district’s executive director of human resources and talent development. The vote was held at a special meeting.
