ANGLAND: Tell me what company you keep, and I will tell you who you are.

Sometimes a picture is worth a thousand words. There is an old saying that goes, “Tell me what company you keep, and I will tell you who you are.”

This week, the Greenwich Republican party posted a photo online. In it, Senator Ryan Fazio and Representative Kimberly Fiorello, both running for re-election, pose happily next to none other than Tudor Dixon, the GOP candidate for governor of Michigan and one of the nation’s most notorious conspiracy theorists and election deniers.

Greenwich RTC Tweet October 20, 2022: Greenwich First Selectman Fred Camillo, Michigan Republican Gubernatorial candidate Tudor Dixon, State Senator Ryan Fazio (R-36) and State Rep Kimberly Fiorello (R-149)

Dixon’s only relevant experience for the governorship is her role as a political commentator on a conservative talk show. Her show routinely spotlights a wide array of QAnon and other conspiracy theories about COVID, the outcome of the 2020 election, and the January 6 insurrection. She also jokes about political violence. For example, Dixon joked about the plot to kidnap Governor Gretchen Whitmer, for which two men were convicted.

Endorsed by Donald Trump, Dixon has repeatedly and without evidence claimed that the 2020 election was stolen and alleged widespread election fraud in Michigan. She has also repeatedly refused to answer questions regarding whether she would accept the results of this November’s election.

As if those outrages were not enough, Dixon favors restoring a 1931 Michigan law criminalizing abortion without exceptions. In an interview she suggested that a 14-year-old girl raped by an uncle is the perfect example of a situation where abortion should not be allowed.

Her attacks on public school teachers, administrators, and LGBTQ youth are the types of standard fare orchestrated by groups like No Left Turn, and which have unfortunately found their way to Greenwich. And of course, it is unlikely that this was a chance encounter between Dixon and the Republican candidates. A Michigan candidate presumably didn’t wander into a Greenwich residence at the same time as Greenwich candidates by accident; she was here because some Greenwich Republicans embrace her.

That is the person our Greenwich Republican “leaders” are promoting in the photo. If this is the company they keep, what does that say about who Senator Ryan Fazio and Representative Kimberly Fiorello are?
