Humane Pet Shop Legislation Passes CT Senate

Humane Pet Shop legislation passed the Senate Wednesday night. The bill now proceeds to the floor of the House of Representatives, where it will await further action. The 2014 legislative session ends on May 7. The legislation would prohibit pet shop licensees from purchasing dogs or cats from breeders who have violated USDA animal welfare regulations and increases the fine for violating related requirements. Saturday, May 3, Greenwich Animal Control at 393 North Street is hosting New Canaan Nature Center and Wilton Parrot Rescue for their first-ever exotic pet awareness day. Learn about the commitment to taking care of a chinchilla, a parrot or snake, for starters, before you bring one home. Greenwich’s Adopt-A-Dog occasionally take in litters of puppies from the south because they know some people in Town only want a puppy. If that’s your preference, you’ll hit the jackpot if you visit the sanctuary this weekend because this cutie is just one of a litter of ten rescued from North Carolina. Oftentimes, in the south, municipal shelters will euthanize the puppies first.
