Fairfield County’s favorite family race series to Stamford in June for another year of feel-good fun, for a good cause, Kids in Crisis.
The Navigators Stamford KIC IT Race Weekend features five races over a two-day span, including the Navigators Stamford KIC IT Kids Triathlon on Saturday, June 11, 2016, and the Navigators Stamford KIC IT Olympic and Sprint Triathlons and 5k and 10k road races on Sunday, June 12.
The Navigators Stamford KIC IT Race Weekend raises awareness and funds for Kids in Crisis, a free emergency shelter and 24-hour crisis counseling resource for Fairfield County children and families. Registration for the popular races opens Monday, February 1 at www.kicittriathlon.com.
This year, fundraising is more important than ever, as Kids in Crisis works to overcome a significant budget cut of $750,000 from the State of Connecticut.
Sprint and Oympic triathletes who choose to fundraise will receive a very big “thank you” from Kids in Crisis: they will enjoy a sharply discounted registration fee of $20 or $40 – and if they fundraise $750 or more, entry will be free. 5k and 10k runners who raise $250 or more also earn free entry, and kid triathletes only need to raise $150 to race for free. The Navigators Stamford KIC IT Kids Triathlon will be held at Cove Beach in Stamford. Children ages 6-13 have the opportunity to participate! Three separate events will be held for each age group. Ages 6 and 7 will complete a 50 meter swim, 0.8 mile bike course and half mile run; ages 8 to 10 will complete a 50 meter swim, 2.5 mile bike course and half mile run; and ages 11 to 13 will complete a 150 meter swim, 4 mile bike course and 1 mile run. The Navigators Stamford KIC IT Kids Triathlon is a great opportunity for children to participate in an enjoyable athletic event that promotes a healthy lifestyle, provides a chance to meet new friends and builds self-confidence. The event is perfect for experienced racers and first time triathletes alike. Prizes will be awarded to top age group winners. Every child will receive a custom medal after crossing the finish line. There will be free fun and games after!
The very next morning, two triathlons and two running races take center stage. The Navigators Stamford KIC IT Olympic Triathlon boasts a .9 mile swim at Cummings Beach in Long Island Sound, a 24.8 mile bike ride through downtown and North Stamford, and an exciting and fast 6.2 mile run. The Navigators Stamford KIC IT Sprint Triathlon will be run as a separate race, and will be contested on portions of the Olympic course. Both beginners and experienced triathletes alike will enjoy the Sprint’s 0.5 mile swim, 13.9 mile bike, and 3.2 mile run. Both Olympic and Sprint races are USA Triathlon-certified and can be run by individuals doing all three legs of the race, or as a relay team with each member performing one or two legs.
Back by popular demand, the Navigators Stamford KIC IT 5K and 10K return. These events are great options for beginner and competitive runners alike, as well as family members and spectators of the triathlon participants. Held on the same day as the Navigators Stamford KIC IT Triathlon, the run courses are USA Track and Field-certified and promise to provide runners with lots of support! Both courses follow the triathlon’s respective run courses as standalone road races with their very own start times. Walkers and runners of all abilities are encouraged to participate.
The much-loved Family Festival will take place from 9:00 a.m. to noon on Sunday. Free and open to the public, it will feature live music, food, caricatures, face painting, carnival games and more. This do-not-miss event promises fun for the whole family!
