Greenwich Christian Preschool celebrated Wacky Wednesday to raise money for Sam Buck and the Vanishing White Matter Family Foundation.
Sam, an 8 year old at Glenville Elementary School, was diagnosed in 2013 with Vanishing White Matter disease (VWM), a very rare neurological condition that destroys myelin, the brain’s white matter. In doing so, it permanently affects transmission of brain signals to the rest of the body. VWM primarily affects children and is untreatable, incurable and terminal.
Parents at Greenwich Christian Preschool donated money for their children to participate in Wacky Wednesday and all funds will go to the VWMFF.
In 2016, the VWM Families Foundation was formed to raise awareness of VWM and raise money for research and to support families living with VWM within the United States and worldwide.
The Foundation has an ambitious goal of raising $2 million over the next year. This money will fund two promising research projects and support families with necessary medical expenses not covered by insurance.
This Thursday VWM Families Foundation is organizing “mismatched shoes day” with a nod to Sam Buck who wears mismatched shoes to school as a way of expressing his personality.
Help VWM support Sam and all VWM kids on Thursday, April 4, which is the anniversary of Sam’s diagnosis by wearing your mismatched shoes or socks.
Register here for $10 to wear mismatched shoes to show support for VWM families all over the world and snap a picture of your mismatched shoes or socks and tag @vwmff and @samvsvwm on the day.
You can follow Sam’s story on facebook, instagram and twitter @samvsvwm
