Greenwich Youth Football League Registration is in Full Swing for Fall

The Greenwich Youth Football League (GYFL) has been the only youth football league in Greenwich for decades, growing to six organizations fielding teams in three divisions, with almost 660 players and cheerleaders. The primary goal of the GYFL is to provide an opportunity for the youths of Greenwich to play football during the fall months. Players learn the fundamentals of football, and there is a firm emphasis on good sportsmanship, honesty, loyalty and citizenship. Players are assured  proper, safe, direct supervision with a fun-filled learning experience. GYFL: A Storied Institution Adapts to Changing Times

Frank Sarcone, president of the board of GYFL didn’t mince words talking about how awareness of concussions has had an impact on how many kids sign up for football. He said there are other sports vying for kids’ limited free time — everything from crew, to soccer and flag football. However, he said, many changes have been made within GYFL in terms of how the game is taught, training and certifications for coaches, and use of the King-Devick test, which eliminates the guess work when it comes to concussions.
