Greenwich Police to Host Multi-Agency Scuba Dive Team Training

With a Federal Port Security Grant, the Greenwich Police Dept. will host regional dive team training courses this week. The courses provide a foundation for training as a regional unit between police, fire and other public safety dive teams in the Region 1 ESF-20 Bridgeport Area Marine Group. Public safety divers from the Greenwich Police,  Milford Police,  Westport Police, Westport EMS, Stamford Fire Dept. and Connecticut State Police will participate in the advanced dive training. As we face an election for the Democratic Party Chair, who we select matters. I suggest we look at what our Democratic Party stands for as we seek the best candidate. Idealistic and characteristic differences and motivations between candidates running for office also matter because they become the face of our Party. Now in its eighth year, the roster at the Greenwich Track Club (GTC) has grown steadily if not exponentially. Led by Bill Bogardus, a Greenwich Public School PE teacher and 2007 Teacher of the Year recipient, growth has benefited from word of mouth, evolving into a four-season, family and service-oriented program that embodies aspects of both club and team. “On a nice spring day you’ll see a hundred of us out for a run,” said club Director Bill Bogardus. Greenwich Public Schools Student Art Show Draws Crowds to Havemeyer

In a sure sign of spring, the annual Greenwich Public Schools Student Art Exhibition packed the Havemeyer Building on Wednesday evening. With about 10 artists from each of the 11 elementary schools, roughly 15 from each of the middle schools and about 70 from GHS students, there was much to admire. State Rep. Livvy Floren Will Run Again After All

After recently announcing her intention to retire, State Rep Livvy Floren, who represents (R, 149th District) has decided she will run run again in November for what could very well be her 8th term in office, according to a report from Greenwich Post. On Wednesday morning fiends and colleagues began posting support to the wall of Floren’s Facebook page. According to Floren’s bio on her website, Floren was appointed by Republican Leader Larry Cafero as ranking member of the General Bonding Sub-committee where she serves on the State Bond Commission. She also serves on the General Assembly’s Finance, Revenue & Bonding Committee and the Committee on Aging. Greenwich Police “Tribute to Heroes Motorcycle” Ceremony Set for Saturday

The Greenwich Police Department will officially unveil their, “Tribute to Heroes” motorcycle during a ceremony on Saturday, March 15 which will begin at 10:00a.m. in the lobby of The Public Safety Complex on Bruce Place. The motorcycle has been elaborately painted in a fashion to honor the heroes of The 911 terrorist attacks on our country and honor the three Greenwich Police Officers who lost their lives in the line of duty. The motorcycle project was a collaborative effort by many members of the police department including Sgt. John Slusarz, Officer Dave Stewart, and our motorcycle officers assigned to the Traffic Section. Additionally, The Silver Shield Association provided financial support to the project. Fairfield County Giving Day – $618K Raised Despite Delays, Slowdowns and Interruptions

Arts and environment non-profits were among the most successful organizations on Fairfield County Giving Day, the online 24-hour day of giving that  took place March 7. In one day, a total of 15,423 donations were received by local nonprofits totaling $618,229.64. An additional $127,500 in prizes funded by the Fairfield County Community Foundation, Bank of America and other corporate and community sponsors, were awarded to more than 50 nonprofits. All combined the first-ever Giving Day raised $745,729.64 for more than 250 local nonprofits. Curtain Call of Stamford was the big winner, taking home a $25,000 prize for the most individual donations received with 1,890 donations totaling $30,675. Continue Reading →
