Ruth Reichl, author, chef and former Editor in Chief of Gourmet Magazine entertained over 200 guests at Neighbor to Neighbor’s spring luncheon at the Innis Arden Golf Club in Old Greenwich on April 5, 2016. This is her first cookbook in over 40 years showcasing 136 recipes that represent her life’s passion for food. As a thank you, each attendee received a copy of the cookbook. Ms. Reichl signed complimentary copies of her new book, My Kitchen Year: 136 Recipes that Saved My Life. The beloved author shared stories of her early years as a struggling writer, escapades as a New York Times food critic, and finally her heartbreak about the day she learned Gourmet Magazine closed its doors, realizing she was suddenly unemployed. US Attorney in CT Part of Nationwide Effort to Confront Discriminatory Backlash

In April and May US attorneys in Connecticut and other states will work with community leaders and law enforcement to address discrimination, violence and harassment targeting Muslim, Sikh, Arab and South Asian Americans from threats and violence directed at them because of their religion or ethnicity. Since September 11th, the Department of Justice has investigated over 1,000 incidents involving acts of violence, threats, assaults, vandalism and arson targeting Arab, Muslim, Sikh and South Asians, and those perceived to be members of these groups. Riverside School Parties on Earth Day with Worms, Pill Bugs, Food Scraps and Compost

 

Friday, April 22 was Earth Day, and at Riverside School, a pilot program that taught children about composting came to fruition. The project involves leaves, food scraps and worms – the key ingredients in the school’s compost bins. The project was a collaboration among many, starting with Aleksandra Moch an environmental analyst for the Town of Greenwich. She worked with colleagues in town hall, Riverside School Principal Christopher Weiss, school’s staff, the PTA, parent volunteers, Greenwich Parks & Rec who held onto leaves collected in the fall, cafeteria workers and custodians – everyone came together with a shared goal. On Earth Day, students burst out of the cafeteria doors and across the blacktop to tables set up by Ms. Moch and volunteers, who greeted them with penguin pledges, worms and pill bugs.
