June 16 designated was Poll Worker Appreciation Day and about 125 poll workers attended an outdoor dinner on the patio of town hall in their honor.
The food provided was purchased from many of the same vendors who participated in the Registrars’ award-winning Polling Place sponsorship program which was given national recognition last month by the US Election Assistance commission.
The Registrars were grateful to Garden Catering, Corbo’s Deli, Constantino’s Pasta Bowls, and The Makerie for the terrific food they provided.
Each poll worker was also provided a small keepsake pin with the official Town of Greenwich America 250 logo.
Democratic Registrar of Voters Mary Hegarty was pleased with the turnout and the weather.
“We’re always happy to have an opportunity to celebrate the hard work that goes into running an election. What our 39,000 voters see on election day would not be possible without all of these individuals here tonight,” Hegarty said.
Republican Registrar Fred DeCaro III added that the extended time frame of early voting added a whole new dimension to the recruitment of poll workers.
“Some of our early voting poll workers volunteer to work the entire consecutive 14 days,” DeCaro said. “Others can only help out on the weekends. The scaling up to maintain those extra 120 hours of voting is no small task. We’re grateful to all who contribute their time and talent.”
Notable attendees included Secretary of the State Stephanie Thomas, State Representatives Steven Meskers and Hector Arzeno, Selectwomen Lauren Rabin and Rachel Khanna, Town Clerk Jackie Budkins, Tax Collector Heather Smeriglio, and multiple members of Greenwich’s Board of Estimate and Taxation.
