Feeding the Need: Pet Pantry Believes Shelter Dogs Should Be Treated Like Pets

On Monday, at Pet Pantry Warehouse, Adam Jacobson, Josh Roth and Ari Jacobson received an award from Adopt-A-Dog for their continued support of the shelter through their “Feed the Need” program.

“Feed the Need” is a food drive that makes healthy food from Blue Buffalo available to shelter dogs. And, the impact of having this grain-free food does not go unnoticed by Adopt-A- Dog Executive Director Kristen Rice.

“When I first started working at Adopt-A- Dog, shelter dogs were served whatever food was available,” Rice explained. “Feed the Need provides a consistent diet, and we can see that the dogs have a healthy coat.”

No dog gets left behind in this healthy diet, so Adopt-A- Dog goes through 86,000 pounds of food per year. Rice said, “At any given time there are 30-35 dogs at the shelter. Pet Pantry’s Feed the Need provides healthy food to all the dogs for free. They also offer us toys and beds at a heavily discounted price.”

Kristen is thankful to Pet Pantry. “They have been tried and true in our community,” she said. “The guys at Pet Pantry share our philosophy. They treat every dog equally, regardless of whether or not they have a home.”
