Registration is open for the Greenwich Alliance for Education’s 16th Annual Turkey Trot, taking place Saturday, Nov 28, at Roger Sherman Baldwin Park in Greenwich.
The Thanksgiving weekend tradition features a 5K Run, a 1 Mile Walk and a Mini-Trot for children ages 3–5.
The event welcomes participants of all ages to enjoy an active holiday weekend while supporting Greenwich Public School students.
This year’s Turkey Trot coincides with the Greenwich Alliance for Education’s 20th anniversary. Since its founding, the Alliance has worked to fund innovation, expand opportunities and inspire educators throughout Greenwich Public Schools. Proceeds from the Turkey Trot, the organization’s largest annual fundraiser, support programs that enrich students’ educational experiences and help address opportunity gaps.
“The Turkey Trot is a wonderful reflection of what makes Greenwich such a special community—people coming together to have fun, support one another and invest in our children’s futures,” said Julie Faryniarz, Executive Director of the Greenwich Alliance for Education, said in a release.
“As we celebrate the Alliance’s 20th anniversary, we’re proud of the difference our community has made in the lives of Greenwich Public School students. Every registration, donation and sponsorship helps us continue that work, and the Turkey Trot is a joyful way for families, friends and neighbors to participate and contribute.”
There’s something for everyone on race day. The Mini-Trot, at 9:00 a.m., designed for children ages 3–5, gives the youngest participants a chance to experience the excitement of race day as they run through the finish chute. Little trotters receive T-shirts and stickers, and adults can cheer them on from the sidelines. The 1 Mile Walk, at 9:30 a.m., welcomes participants of all ages, with medals awarded at the finish line to every youth who completes the event. At 10:00 a.m., 5K race runners will compete on a certified scenic flat-loop course using a bib-tag timing system, with each runner’s time beginning when they cross the starting pad. Warm-up and stretching begin at 9:10 a.m.
After crossing the finish line, participants and spectators can enjoy the post-race hospitality tent, featuring food, beverages and DJ music.
Performance-material race T-shirts are guaranteed for 1 Mile and 5K participants who register by Sunday, November 8. Race Day pick-up of bibs and t-shirts will be in the lobby of the Bruce Museum, just steps from the 1 Mile and 5K starting line. Medals and prizes will recognize top 5K finishers across a variety of categories, with the awards ceremony expected to take place at approximately 11:15 a.m., after the runners and walkers have finished.
Registration is available at https://greenwichalliance.org/event-post/turkey-trot-2026/.
Adult registration for the 5K and 1 Mile is $40 through October 31, increasing to $50 on November 1 and to $55 on race day.
Registration for children ages 6–12 is $20, and the Mini-Trot for ages 3–5 is $20. Prices exclude registration fees. For those unable to attend in person, a virtual 5K is available for $25; virtual participants do not receive a T-shirt or medal. Early registration is encouraged, as the 5K sold out last year.
The popular Run for Your School Competition returns this year, recognizing Greenwich schools with the highest participation percentage and the largest number of runners. Winning schools will receive Turkey Trot trophies and be celebrated through photographs and community recognition. The school competition closes Thursday, November 26.
Participants are also encouraged to raise additional funds for the Alliance by asking family and friends to sponsor their participation. Teams of extended family members, friends, sports teams and clubs are welcome, making the event an opportunity to combine community spirit, friendly competition and support for local students.
