Susan Herbst to Speak at Christ Church: “Civility in Turbulent Times and the Future of American Politics”

Christ Church Greenwich is hosting speaker, Susan Herbst, Professor of Political Science and President Emeritus at the University of Connecticut for a free talk and breakfast on Saturday, May 10, 2025 from 8:30am to 10:00am.

The talk is titled, “Civility in Turbulent Times and the Future of American Politics.”

The politics of 2025 America present citizens with challenges and questions we’ve not faced in generations.

How can we understand the long-term impacts of our political culture and the daily flood of news?

Are there any remedies for our incivility, partisan polarization, and the anxiety we all feel, no matter our party preferences?

Political Science has some answers, although we revise them constantly, trying to keep up with this extraordinary moment in history.

Ms Herbst served as the 15th President of the University of Connecticut from 2010 to 2019 and is now University Professor of Political Science and President Emeritus at UConn’s Stamford campus.

Previously, she was Executive Vice Chancellor of the University System of Georgia, Provost at The University at Albany (SUNY), and Dean of the College of Liberal Arts at Temple University.

A scholar in public opinion, media, and American politics, Dr. Herbst earned her B.A. from Duke University and her Ph.D. from the University of Southern California. She is the author of five books, most recently, A Troubled Birth: The 1930s and American Public Opinion.
