Neighbor to Neighbor Distributes 500 Turkeys to Families in Need

Many families have been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic this year and it will be a difficult Thanksgiving for so many, particularly for those in need of food assistance.

On Friday, Neighbor to Neighbor distributed nearly 500 frozen turkeys with fresh produce and trimmings to the individuals and families they serve throughout the year.

Many of the turkeys were donated by King’s Market, and the balance from CT Food Bank and an anonymous donor.

Every year, Neighbor to Neighbor offers turkeys to families in need, However, in 2020, far more households are having difficulty making ends meet.

Prior to the pandemic, Neighbor to Neighbor served approximately 325 client households. today, they provide groceries to more than 575 households with deliveries provided by TAG.

People in need of assistance are referred by the Greenwich Department of Human Services.

“Neighbor to Neighbor is ready to serve our community in need, especially during this critical time when so many feel isolated and alone,” said Margaret Tjimos Goldberg, Executive Director. “We offer our assistance and we appreciate the dedication of our staff and volunteers as we serve our clients with a smile, a turkey, and a holiday bag of produce and some trimmings.”

Neighbor to Neighbor’s temporary location at Arch Street Teen Center is functioning well, with plenty of space to organize inventory and pack bags of groceries for delivery. Volunteers and staff work together while practicing recommended CDC safety guidelines.
