Greenwich Police Silver Shield to Host “Tips for Kids” for Kids in Crisis

Sundown SaloonWalk into Greenwich Avenue’s Sundown Saloon on Thursday, March 10, and guests will be in for a fun surprise – the Greenwich Police Department’s Silver Shield Association will be on staff, serving as waiters, busboys, and helping behind the bar, all in the name of Kids in Crisis.

Guests are invited to attend the Silver Shield’s “Tips for Kids” benefit, from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Sundown Saloon, located at 403 Greenwich Avenue.

All tips from the night will go to Kids in Crisis. The Cos Cob children’s shelter recently announced a cut in $750,000 of funding from the State of Connecticut.

According to Sgt. Tim Hilderbrand, President of the Silver Shield – the Police Department’s organization devoted to community service – the benefit night is a perfect way for the Police Department to help Kids in Crisis.

“The Silver Shield is excited to get involved and help an organization that directly helps our local kids, every day. We work closely with Kids in Crisis, and see the great work that they do,” Hilderbrand said. “We think our benefit night at Sundown Saloon will be a terrific way to rally the community and raise critical funds for the organization.”

In addition to guest servers from the Police Department, the night will feature live music and hors d’oeuvres. Patrons will also have the option of enjoying a sit-down meal. T-shirts and an exciting prize drawing will be available for sale. There is a $10 cover at the door and space is limited to 150 people at one time; guests are encouraged to come early.

Kids in Crisis is Connecticut’s only free, round-the-clock agency providing emergency shelter, crisis counseling and community educational programs for children of all ages and families dealing with a wide range of crises – domestic violence, mental health and family problems, substance abuse, economic difficulties and more.

Since its founding in 1978, Kids in Crisis has helped more than 132,000 Connecticut children and families. Last year, 6,184 children and families received assistance from the organization.
