Greenwich Town Hall has been busier than usual early voting for the mid term election kicked off on Monday, Oct 19.
Republican Registrar of Voters Fred DeCaro said he anticipates between 7,000 and 9,000 voters will visit town hall over the course of two weeks of early voting.
“That’s what we expected,” DeCaro said on Wednesday. “It’s mid way between a local and presidential turnout. We run about 20% less in a midterm than a presidential.”
DeCaro said 565 people voted at town hall on the first day of early voting.
Greenwich has a high voter turnout compared to other towns in Connecticut, as evidenced in the website DeCaro created – 4Fred.info – for a hub of Greenwich voting data.
Turnout in Greenwich for presidential elections has stayed steady at about 85% of voters. For mid term elections, about 65% of voters turn out, and between 45-50% turn out for local elections.
“That has not changed in decades,” DeCaro said adding that people who vote early would have voted anyway.

Over the course of two weeks of early voting, from Monday, October 19 through Sunday, November 1, there will be a food donation drive in the lobby of town hall.
“We thought why not take advantage of Greenwich’s generosity and collect needed food stuffs for Neighbor to Neighbor as we enter the holiday season?” DeCaro said.
“The need is up,” he said.
In fact, this summer, Neighbor to Neighbor noted that rising costs of food, gas, and other everyday expenses, along with changes to eligibility for federal Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits, pushed the not for profit’s client numbers up 13% compared to the same time last year.
Most needed items right now are canned fish and meat, peanut butter and jelly, pasta and sauce, coffee and tea, canned and dried fruit, cooking oil, cereal, and dried beans. Every donation makes a difference for the 900+ registered households that count on Neighbor to Neighbor.
DeCaro said with so many people coming to town hall for early voting, other not-for profits can be showcased too.
Adopt-A-Dog will be at town hall with adoptable dogs on Oct 31 from 11:00am to 4:00pm. Voting is from 10:00am to 6:00pm.
People can pet the dogs and there will be be puppy pens and tablets for those interested filling out an application to adopt a dog.
Early voting is conducted in one location: Greenwich Town Hall 101 Field Point Rd Greenwich, CT 06830
