With Many New Clients, Meals-On-Wheels Changes Protocols, Adds Volunteers

There are a lot of volunteers helping overwhelmed organizations get their job done during the Covid-19 pandemic, and Meals-on-Wheels of Greenwich is one of those organizations.

Meals-on-Wheels is a 501(C)(3) organization that delivers nutritious meals to seniors, disabled and home-bound individuals in Greenwich.

“We have had many new clients added to our daily routes,” said board member Lori Jackson adding that Meals-on-Wheels Director Lynne Stewart and her assistant Cathy Goff have taken it all in stride.

Many of Meals-on-Wheels dedicated volunteers are in the most vulnerable population and they are taking a break right now.

Jackson said Meals-on-Wheels has established safety protocols, and are recruiting and training new volunteers.

“Fortunately, many have stepped up and we are able to adjust to the increasing requests for meals for our primarily elderly population who don’t want to go to the grocery or are not able to cook for themselves,” Jackson explained.

Meals on Wheels continues to work hard to be sure to deliver meals sometimes for 7 days a week.

Meals on Wheels is able to meet the rising need because of staff and wonderful volunteers of Greenwich.

“To all of them we say thank you for your continued effort,” Jackson said.

Seniors in the community who seek meals should call Lynne Stewart at (203) 869-1312.

Currently Meals-On-Wheels has enough volunteers, but anyone interested in volunteering should contact Lynne Stewart and let her know your interest because the organization is not sure how long the current protocol will last and they may need relievers.
