Greenwich Police Officer Wrestles Three Thieves to the Ground after Incident at Saks

Greenwich Police arrested three people on Thursday afternoon after an incident at Saks on Greenwich Avenue.

According to Lt. David Nemecek, around 3:30pm a Greenwich Police officer responded to Saks where individuals had grabbed merchandise.

Nemecek said three suspects wrestled with the police officer.

“They tried to get past the police officer, but he fought them off and he wrestled all three of them to the ground,” Nemecek said. “They couldn’t get past him, and then a second officer arrived,” he said. “They assaulted him.”

Ultimately, three suspects were arrested and charged with Robbery, Criminal Attempt at Larceny 1, Assault on a Police Officer, and Criminal Mischief for damaging store property.

According to a witness waiting for the bus on Mason Street around 3:45, a woman ran from police to Mason Street where she was apprehended. She said a store employee arrived and his hand was bleeding, but he declined to be taken to the hospital.

The investigation is ongoing and this story will be updated when more information becomes available.
