Greenwich Police Release Mugshot, Details of Jewelry Store Robbery

On Monday Greenwich Police released a mugshot of the suspect in the jewelry store robbery that took place at Tiffany & Co Saturday around 3:43pm.

When the arrest was initially announced many people commented on social media that they had minutes earlier been on Greenwich Avenue for a Halloween event for young children visiting local businesses.

Police say when the suspect, Edgardo Bautista-Gallardo, 19, of 700 Hyde Street, San Fransico, CA, entered Tiffany & Co at 140 Greenwich Ave dressed as a female with a wig and makeup. He pointed what store associates believed to be a gun at them, threatening them to provide him with jewelry.

Staff cooperated and gave Mr. Bautista-Gallardo the jewelry. He then fled the store with the jewelry.

Detectives were in the area chased and were able to catch up with the suspect who refused to obey officers’ commands and continued to run.

When Bautrista-Gallardo was apprehended he was found in possession of the stolen goods. He admitted to using a “BB gun” that was also found in the area by officers. Police also recovered the jewelry which had an estimated value of $175,000.

No one was injured in this incident.  Mr. Baustia-Gallardo was the lone perpetrator.

He was charged with Robbery 1, Larceny 1, Threatening 4, Interfering with an Officer and Breach of Peace. His bond was set at $750,000, which he was unable to post at the time.

He was remanded into custody of Greenwich Police Dept while waiting to be transported to Stamford Superior Court where he is due on November 6, 2023.
