For 14 years, the Boys & Girls Club of Greenwich’s Camp Simmons has been hosting Holidays in July! Campers felt ’twas the season on Friday July 25 when Santa himself arrived in a red fire truck, assisted by fire fighters from Greenwich’s North Street Station.
Screams of glee echoed across the fields and the Camp Simmons pool as 200 campers, CITs and staff took the temperature down a notch, courtesy of the firetruck hose at the hands of Santa.
For a time, the new Boys and Girls Club director, Bobby Walker, Jr. manned the firehose, getting a bit creative with the arcs and plumes of water, and letting the kids run through the spray.
At the end of the event, staff and campers alike were drenched and smiling. All the children had fists full of candy canes courtesy of Kris Kringle.
