New Dean of Student Life Named at Greenwich High School

Greenwich Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Toni Jones has appointed Mr. Thomas Pereira as Dean of Student Life for Greenwich High School, effective October 1, 2020. Mr. Pereira replaces Dr. Lorraine Termini who recently retired from the District.

In this role at GHS, Mr. Pereira will be responsible for the administration and application of all school disciplinary policies and procedures, working proactively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students and will supervise and conduct investigations of major disciplinary infractions for each of the five houses; in addition, he will supervise and collaborate with each of the five Assistant Deans to develop programs and activities to promote a positive school climate and culture for students and staff. Most recently, Mr. Pereira served as Dean of Students for Westhill High School in Stamford, CT.

“We are excited for Mr. Pereira to join our team at Greenwich Public Schools. He has a strong background in student oversight and holds a special passion for building and strengthening relationships with his students and fellow staff members. Not only does this role uniquely serve our entire GHS building, he’ll also serve as a liaison to the many community organizations who support and offer services for our students, including Greenwich Together, Liberation House, Kids in Crisis and many more. I look forward to seeing the skill and energy that he brings to this position,” said Dr. Jones.

Mr. Pereira joins Greenwich Public Schools from the Stamford Public Schools District. Most recently, Mr. Pereira served as the Dean of Students for seven years at Westhill High School, responsible for facilitating the enforcement of rules, regulations and expectations for all students, holding student/parent meetings, mediating peer conflicts, encouraging a smooth transition into high school for ninth grade students and other activities promoting a safe and effective high school environment. Prior to that role, Mr. Pereira was a Classroom Teacher at Westhill High School for seven years. Mr. Pereira’s passion for students extends beyond the classroom as well; he served as a Summer School Teacher, Football Coach, Wrestling Coach, Administrative Intern, Yearbook Advisor and Class Advisor during his tenure at Westhill High School.

Mr. Pereira shared, “I am humbled, honored and excited for the opportunity to join the Greenwich High School family. I look forward to leading and supporting the Cardinals in these trying times. I have loved and enjoyed all my educational experiences, and know I have been forged in readiness for this moment. Dr. Termini leaves some big shoes to fill and I look forward to continuing her great work, while adding my knowledge and experiences to help best support the students, staff and families at Greenwich High School.”

Mr. Pereira holds both a Bachelor of Arts degree in History and Master of Arts in Teaching, with a Certificate in History and Social Studies for Grades 7 through 12, from Sacred Heart University.

In addition, he holds a Master of Education with a concentration in Educational Leadership from Teacher’s College at Columbia University.
