GHS Golf Team, First Place FCIAC and State Champs, Honored at Greenwich Town Hall

Monday, Dec 19 was proclaimed Greenwich High School Boys Varsity Golf Team Day and Greenwich First Selectman Fred Camillo organized an event at town hall to honor the team. In attendance were GHS principal Ralph Mayo, golf team coach Jeff Santilli and Interim Director of Athletics Peter Georgiou.

The GHS boys varsity Golf Team has been in existence for more than 75 years and coach Santilli has been the head coach since 2000.

In 2022 the team had an undefeated regular season record of 15-0, 1st place FCIAC Championship and 1st place State Championship.

The team had one player named CIAC player of the year, three players (10 spots) named ALL State, one player named ALL FCIAC (5 spots) and three players named ALL FCIAC West (6 spots).

First Selectman Camillo, who proclaimed Dec 19th as Greenwich High School Boys Varsity Golf Team Day, said in a proclamation that the team philosophy was to become the best they can be in the classroom and in their sport. Coaches focus on educating players to understand their unique swing, efficient practice methods, scoring elements, fitness and mental and emotional resilience.

“At Greenwich High School students play with pride and a responsibility to represent the school, community, peers and themselves in a positive, supportive, respectful and competitive manner,” Camillo said.
