Cross Your Fingers for Sunshine at Greenwich High School’s Tuesday Graduation…

As of Monday night the weather for Tuesday’s Greenwich High School graduation ceremony was iffy and Dr. Winters emailed parents the following notice saying a decision about bringing the ceremony indoors will be made by 11:00am on Tuesday:

Dear Parents and Guardians,

June 20, 2016

This Tuesday, June 21, is Graduation, rain or shine (we prefer shine).

The decision to hold Graduation inside or outside will be made at 11:00 am on the 21st.  You may tune into WGCH, check the school website, or check your email after 11:00 for this determination.

If the ceremony is outside, seating is unlimited and on a first come first serve basis. Seating cannot be reserved.  Please be advised that we do not allow umbrellas to be used during the outdoor ceremony (you may use an umbrella prior to the start of the ceremony). It may be uncomfortably hot, so please plan accordingly. Also, please encourage your graduate to hydrate before the ceremony. Parking is limited and carpooling is suggested. There will be shuttle buses from Greenwich Country Day School (GCDS) that will drop off in the front circle of GHS.  Be advised that the shuttle buses will make runs continuously to and from GCDS until 45 minutes after the conclusion of the ceremony. In addition, there is limited parking available from our kind neighbors at the Temple Sholom and Christ Church.

Handicapped parking will be located in the GHS South lot – the first lot on the left coming from the Post Road.  You must have a state issued permit to park in the South lot.  Parking is first come first serve, so please plan accordingly.  In addition, there will be handicapped drop off on the Post Road closest to Cardinal Stadium; be advised that some assistance may be needed to get to the stadium from the drop off point.  We will be providing shuttle service for handicapped individuals from the South lot as well.

The ceremony will begin at 6:30 PM sharp and usually lasts 1.5 hours.  Graduates will return to their houses though the Student Center.  Diploma distribution will end 30 minutes after the conclusion of the Graduation ceremony.  Please allow graduates to recess from Cardinal Stadium first.  Parents and guests should NOT go onto the field after graduation. Please see the  map below that outlines various exit points from Cardinal Stadium to the parking lot and the front patio.

In the event of rain, two ceremonies will be held.   The first ceremony is for graduates with the last name beginning L-Z at 4:00pm and the second at 7:15pm for graduates with the last names beginning A-K.  Families were given 3 tickets for the rain ceremony. After each ceremony, graduates will report to their houses to receive their diplomas. We ask if you are part of the first ceremony that you vacate the Student Center quickly so we can prepare for the second ceremony.

Any parents who purchased lawn signs for their son/daughter, may plant them along the front of the school. Do not block the sidewalks. Please retrieve them as you depart GHS after the ceremony.

Please refer to the GHS website under Student Activities for additional information.
