Police ID Juvenile Responsible for Recent Swastika Vandalism at OGS

On Monday afternoon, Greenwich Police Department Special Victims Section announced that they had identified the juvenile responsible for the recent swastika vandalism at Old Greenwich School. The incident happened at the end of March. The vandalism was discovered at the staircase by the gym entrance where a swastika had been etched into the walkway.

An investigation was launched and Greenwich DPW cleared the carving from the concrete and the district’s Facilities department repaired the staircase.

On Monday Greenwich Police Department said in a release that they understood the fear and anger caused by acts of vandalism like this in the community.

“The Department investigates crimes, especially those related to hate and bias, to the fullest extent and endeavors to provide superior law enforcement to all,” police said in the release.

Police said the juvenile and his family were cooperating with Detectives.

“Preliminary investigation indicates this act of vandalism was performed without any thought to how this symbol affects others or the pain it may bring,” they added.

The investigation will remain open until the completion of delinquency proceedings.

“We strongly urge parents to engage in age-appropriate discussions with their children about antisemitism and hate, fostering a culture of kindness and tolerance towards others. Doing so can collectively build a safer and more inclusive community for all.”
