Greenwich Police Continue to Combat Organized Retail Theft: Arrests Made

Greenwich Police have charged more people with organized retail theft following an incident on Greenwich Ave.

On the afternoon of Thursday, Oct 24, plain clothes officers working in the central Greenwich business district spotted suspicious activity at a local retailer. Further surveillance revealed the individuals allegedly concealed merchandise in a foil lined booster bag by staging items, distracting employees, acting as lookouts, and using their bodies to obstruct their actions.

Patrol officers and plain clothes officers detained the two suspects:

Angie T Rodriguez, 37, of Elizabeth, NJ and Kevin A Rodriguez, 33, of College Point, NY.

Investigation revealed that the suspects were part of an organized retail theft group who arrived in Greenwich in a vehicle bearing a misused registration and entered a retail store with a booster bag to commit larceny by shoplifting merchandise over  $4,000.

Police said that upon being detained, Mr. Rodriguez provided a fictitious name and signed his State Notice of Right detailing the fictitious name.

Ms Rodriguez  was charged with Organized Retail Theft of less than $10,000, Conspiracy to Commit Organized Retail Theft, Larceny 3, Conspiracy to Commit Larceny 3, Illegal Possession of Shoplifting Device, Conspiracy to Commit Illegal Possession of Shoplifting Device.

She was unable to post her bond of $50,000 ans was assigned a court date in Stamford on Nov 8, 2024.

Mr. Rodriguez faces the same charges, plus a second charge of Illegal Possession of Shoplifting Device, Criminal Impersonation, Forgery 2 and Interfering with an Officer/Resisting Arrest.

He was unable to post his bond, which was set at $100,000. He shares the court date with Ms Rodriguez on Nov 8 in Stamford Superior Court.
