Bicycle Injury in Pinetum Leaves 11-Year-Old with Severe Head Injury

Greenwich Police cars, newAn 11-year-old Cos Cob boy has suffered a serious head injury in a bicycle accident. The boy was transported to Yale-New Haven Hospital and as of approximately 3:45 pm on Saturday was listed as stable but in critical condition and in intensive care.

According to Greenwich Police Lt. Gray, three Cos Cob youths were riding their bicycles within the Montgomery Park and Pinetum, the 91 acre public park in Cos Cob, at approximately 8:30am on Saturday. The victim lost control of his bicycle leaving the trail and fell off his bicycle. The 11-yearold boy struck his head on a rock and suffered a severe head injury. The youth was not wearing a safety helmet.

One of the other youths dialed 911 from his cell phone and personnel from the Greenwich Police Department and the Greenwich Emergency Medical Service were dispatched. The youth was quickly located within the property, was provided medical assistance, and transported initially to the Stamford Hospital Emergency Room. The youth was later transferred to Yale-New Haven Hospital.

A parent and/or guardian of the three involved youths have been notified; no names of the juveniles will be released.

The accident is currently under investigation by Greenwich Police Departments Traffic Section.
