A $30 Million expansion and renovation project planned for the grim-looking 1950s public housing project known as Armstrong Court in Chickahominy moved a step closer to fruition after Monday’s RTM meeting. On June 8 the RTM voted both to reject Peter Berg’s suggestion to have a sub-committee study the proposal further, and to approve Municipal Improvement status for the project. Newly appointed executive director Kristen Rice at Adopt A Dog said the shelter is on a roll. Eight dogs have been adopted in the past eight days. She credits a new online adoption form, an “UnderDog program” that waives adoption fees for dogs that have resided at the shelter for a long time, and cross-training of staff, so more people are involved in the adoption process.
